Job Title: Heavy Equipment Mechanic Job Summary This position is responsible for the work involved in the maintenance, and repair of heavy-duty vehicles and mobile equipment which have utility systems or special hydraulic, pneumatic, mechanical, electrical, or electronic systems, features, or controls designed for such purposes as construction, earth moving, loading, and comparable industrial or special applications. The work requires knowledge of how heavy-duty machinery, engines, parts, and systems work; ability to detect faulty items, determine causes of malfunction, and determine best repair methods; and skill to assemble, disassemble, repair, or modify components and systems. Qualifications:
Physical Demands This job requires frequent standing, bending, reaching, stretching, climbing, and crouching; work on top of, under, and in tight compartments of vehicles in cramped or awkward positions; strenuous work while standing, lying, or sitting. The employee must frequently lift and carry items, unassisted, weighing up to 40 pounds; lift and move heavier items with the assistance of other workers or with lifting devices such as jacks, hoists, and cranes. The employee must often push, pull, and position parts, assemblies, and equipment. The employee is sometimes required to work from ladders or work platforms at varying heights. Work Environment: While performing the duties of this Job, the employee is regularly exposed outside weather conditions; moving mechanical parts; high, precarious places; fumes or airborne particles; toxic or caustic chemicals; and vibration. We require adherence to prescribed safety practices and use of safety equipment such as protective hearing devices, hard hats, hard-toe shoes, gloves, respirators, extreme weather safety, and protective clothing.
