Help individuals with serious mental illness retain their independence. Lutheran Social Services of Illinois(LSSI) is hiring full-time Counselor/Case Managers to support our clients with mental illness' journey to independent living on the Northside of Chicago.

You will join a team of dedicated case managers, counselors, peer specialists and nurses that support individuals to successfully live in their community. That may mean attending appointments with them, helping to build coping skills, supporting access to community services like food or utility assistance, or teaching life skills like laundry or budgeting. The ultimate goal is to help our clients avoid psychiatric hospitalizations and crisis episodes.

EssentialFunctions:



  • Carry a caseload of clients providing supportive counseling, teaching coping skills, and helping them manage of their symptoms.
  • Help clients access community services (food, clothing, utility assistance, etc.) and benefits (healthcare, disability, social security)
  • Transportation of clients in personal vehicles or agency vehicles is required. Services will be provided in multiple locations.
  • Monitor client's medication and attend appointments with them (medical, dental, therapy, etc.)
  • Help clients find housing.
  • Teach life skills (budgeting, grocery shopping, hygiene, laundry, etc.) and help them establish routines.
  • Provide some therapeutic intervention and support when clients are struggling.
  • Help clients develop a crisis plan.


Position Qualifications:



  • Bachelor's degree required, Master'spreferred.
  • 1-3 years of clinical experience preferred.
  • Experience in Crisis Intervention & De-escalation.
  • Valid Illinois Driver's License & Insurance.
