Position Summary:

Reporting to the Manager of Environmental Services, the Supervisor Trainee 1 is responsible to learn the skills and functions of the EVS Supervisor position through On-the-Job training and successfully completing related classroom instruction. The Trainee 1 is responsible for learning how to deliver quality and reliable services to the JHBMC community which includes patients, families, health care providers, researchers, staff and visitors. The Trainee 1 shall work closely with and assist EVS Supervisor to learn to develop daily priorities to achieve departmental objectives and goals and to support the programmatic and fiscal strategies for the department. The Trainee 1 will learn to ensure that performance standards meet the service expectations of a broad client base, which will include: monitoring productivity, tracking progress and customer satisfaction results, and learning how to maintain effective communication skills with clients and stakeholders. Trainee 1 will learn to ensure work quality and performance in compliance with Departmental and Hospital standards, procedures and policies; the collective bargaining agreement; and local, state and federal codes. Trainee 1 will learn to utilize quality assurance tools effectively to ensure a consistently high level of cleanliness (i.e., checklists). The Trainee 1 will learn to provide excellent customer service to patients, families and staff etc.

Education/Experience:

High school diploma and 2 years experience

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:




  • Must pass assessment on an 8th grade reading and math level.
  • Must be able to work rotating shifts during training period.
  • Requires a minimum of a high school diploma or equivalent.
  • Two years of relevant work experience.
  • Fundamental knowledge of cleaning, floor care and trash removal in a healthcare environment.
  • Functional knowledge of computer applications including Microsoft office suite.
  • Commitment to use personal time to complete various training requirements.
  • The program is estimated to take 9 - 18 months to complete.
